About Woodlands Hotel Leeds

Woodlands Leeds wedding venue is a favourite of mine and I was really looking forward to returning to photograph Lindsay and David’s wedding there. I have worked at Woodlands Leeds weddings so many times over the last 14 years, this was my first visit back after the new orangery had been completed. Previously the venue had a marquee for the wedding breakfast and reception. The more permanent orangery is absolutely stunning. A beautifully decorated, modern space for your wedding at Leeds Woodlands Hotel.

Bridal Prep near Woodlands Leeds Wedding venue

Lindsay and her bridesmaids got ready at a beautiful AirBnB in Gildersome, not far from Woodlands. With plenty of space for her bridesmaids and flower girls. Her bridal gown was by Enzoani Bridal a floral lace gown with a blush lining and cap sleeves.

Church Wedding Ceremony

Lindsay and Dave opted for a Church ceremony at St Francis Catholic Church. Church ceremonies can often have restrictions, wherever possible, I aim to attend wedding rehearsals to understand the rules for that particular church. Luckily I was given free reign and allowed to do my job to the fullest.

After the ceremony, the newlyweds were congratulated and covered in confetti outside the church before we made our way to the Woodlands Leeds wedding venue to continue the celebrations.

Woodlands Hotel Leeds

Woodlands Hotel is a boutique Victorian gem tucked away on the outskirts of Leeds. This elegant venue is a dream to photograph, featuring beautifully styled rooms and a stunning glass Orangery that opens out directly onto lush, landscaped gardens. For your wedding ceremony and wedding breakfast, the Orangery offers an incredible setting filled with natural light, which is perfect for capturing those soft, candid moments. Whether your guests are mingling on the sweeping lawns or dancing under the grand chandeliers, it balances classic Yorkshire heritage with a modern, intimate house-party vibe.

Once the couple had arrived and had a quick celebratory drink, we commenced with the group shots on the lawn. Cocoa the dog joined us for a while, and we attempted to get some pictures with him! I had previously met Cocoa on Lindsay and Dave’s engagement shoot and had been told that the beagle in him meant he was a stubborn dog! I tend to do couple portraits in 2-3 short sessions depending on the flow of the day and time of year. Lindsay and Dave were married in May, so we nipped outside for some additional couple portraits for 10-15 minutes after the first dance to make the most of the evening light. I find it’s also really good for couples to have opportunities away from their guests together as a wedding day can be quite hectic!

Special Details

When we very first met, Dave told me that his first love was Leeds United. For him, it was important to include a nod to his favourite football team in his wedding. The wedding cake was beautifully elegant on the front with his Leeds United detail on the reverse. The table names were also football related – different players for each table name with a photograph of their “seasons” together! Lindsay and Dave also opted for a memory table to commemorate those who were dear to them who were no longer around. They also had a DIY photobooth with an instant camera and some colour coordinated props. The table decor was simple and elegant, following the blush, sage green and gold colour scheme.
