The Priest’s House Wedding Photography: A Photographer’s Guide to Barden Tower

The Priests House wedding venue is one of my favourites. A place I had driven past hundreds of times, intrigued to know what it was like inside. As far as wedding venues go, it’s completely different from anything else around Yorkshire. The Priest’s House is nestled in the ruins of Barden Tower, a medieval fortified manor house in North Yorkshire and has the most beautiful chapel for weddings.

Capturing Ceremonies in the Chapel at The Priest’s House

One of the unique features of The Priests House wedding venue is The Old Chapel. A space that offers the romance of a church with the flexibility of a non-religious ceremony. The Old Chapel provides a spacious yet intimate ceremony room with a rustic charm and plenty of natural light. The ceremony light is y absolute favourite because it’s directional natural light. You also get to have your ceremony conducted by North Yorkshire registrars, who are some of the loveliest registrars in Yorkshire! If I was looking to get married, The Priest’s House would be high up my list of wedding venues in Yorkshire.

Portrait Locations Around Barden Tower & Wharfedale

Outside The Priests House, the grounds open up to the ruins of Barden Tower, a unique backdrop for wedding photography. These ruins provide a dramatic setting that contrasts beautifully with the softer landscapes of the Yorkshire Dales. The grounds also offer a relaxed, private space for guests to enjoy canapés and drinks, allowing for real candid, natural moments – my favourite to photograph. The outdoor space allows everyone to enjoy the Yorkshire countryside at its best. It makes a great space for natural wedding photographs. The countryside around here is beautiful! If you love food, this is a wedding venue for you. The canapés are a substantial snack and the wedding breakfasts are divine! Connor and the team at The Priest’s House are fantastic at what they do.

Real Weddings at The Priests House Wedding Venue

Georgia & Jordan

Georgia and Jordan were married at The Priests House wedding venue last year. My day started with bridal prep at the nearby Devonshire Arms, where Georgia, her mum and her bridesmaids were getting ready. 

Georgia is the most organised bride I have ever met! Her timetable meant there was loads of time for pictures of her and the girls before I had to leave for the ceremony. Georgia’s mum Sharron walked her down the aisle for the wedding ceremony in The Old Chapel and was met by a few tears from Jordan.

After having some time to greet their guests and grab a drink, I organised the group shots and confetti. Following the group shots, the bride and groom had time away from their guests for pictures around Barden Tower.

The rest of the celebrations were at The Devonshire Fell Hotel in Burnsall. After the speeches, we had the most spectacular golden hour light and headed down to the river to take advantage of it. If you’ve never been, Burnsall by the river on a warm day is one of the best places you could be.
