In July, I had the pleasure of photographing June and Ammar’s intimate wedding at the Merewood Country House Hotel. This venue is set in an elevated location overlooking the magnificent Lake Windermere, the largest lake in the Lake District. The views from the hotel, ideal for a Lake District wedding photographer, are simply breathtaking, providing a perfect backdrop for wedding photos. June and Ammar envisioned an outdoor ceremony, and luckily, they were blessed with a (mostly) dry wedding day. Their ceremony took place on a terrace overlooking the lake, surrounded by their closest family and friends. After the ceremony, the couple and their guests enjoyed drinks and a delightful afternoon tea, taking in the stunning scenery. Later, the wedding party embarked on a lake cruise, an extraordinary setting for capturing relaxed couple portraits. The gentle sway of the boat and the serene waters allowed for some truly unposed and natural wedding photographs. We returned just before a sudden downpour, but we managed to swiftly grab a couple of pictures on a nearby pier, adding a spontaneous touch to their wedding album. This experience at the Merewood Country House Hotel highlighted the beauty of outdoor weddings in the Lake District and the joy of capturing such moments.

The Ro Hotel Bowness Wedding

Back in June, I had the honour of photographing Rebekah and Jake’s wedding at The Ro Hotel. My journey with Rebekah began years ago when her mother booked me for family portraits before she left for University. It was so good to see her and her family again and to capture her wedding day. The preparations took place in a stunning room with a grand view of Lake Windermere, setting the tone for an unforgettable day. Rebekah was particularly emotional, a reminder of the joys and challenges of wedding days, especially as she was expecting their first child. After the wedding breakfast filled with laughter from the speeches, we had planned to head to the lake in Bowness-On-Windermere for some beautiful portraits. Just as we were about to leave, the heavens opened! But Rebekah embraced the rain, believing it was fitting for a wedding in the lakes. After all, it wouldn’t be a trip to the Lake District without experiencing a downpour! We ventured out into the rain, which added a unique and romantic element to their photographs, creating memories that would last a lifetime.
