Autumnal Magic: A Fig House Wedding at Middleton Lodge Estate

The Middleton Lodge Estate

The Middleton Lodge Estate oozes in style throughout the estate. From the Coach House restaurant to the Forge, the dining here offers local, seasonal flavours that feel both refined and relaxed. The estate is a true retreat, featuring the award-winning Forest Spa where the outdoor pool and thermal facilities allow you to fully recharge in the heart of the North Yorkshire countryside. Every corner of the property is thoughtfully designed, offering luxury accommodation that ranges from chic, boutique bedrooms to private cottages that feel like a home away from home. Whether you are wandering through the walled gardens or enjoying a quiet moment by the fire, the estate perfectly balances grand architectural heritage with a warm, contemporary soul.

The Middleton Lodge Estate offers a stunning variety of backdrops, making it one of the most versatile wedding venues in North Yorkshire. The Fig House features floor-to-ceiling windows that look out over the restored Kitchen Garden. If you prefer something more traditional, the Main House provides an elegant, grand setting with its sweeping staircase and classic drawing rooms.

When Kirsten and Niall first showed me the architectural plans for their wedding at The Fig House at Middleton Lodge, I knew it was going to be something spectacular. As a North Yorkshire wedding photographer, I’m always drawn to unique textures, and the vision for this Richmond venue. I love the exposed brickwork and minimalistic rustic interior.

The Kitchen Garden: A Year-Round Backdrop

Before the big day, we met at the estate for an engagement shoot. The Fig House is nestled within the Middleton Lodge Kitchen Garden, a magnificent English garden designed to look incredible in every season. Even in early June, the symmetry and planting provided a perfect backdrop, proving why this is quickly becoming one of the most sought-after wedding venues in Richmond, North Yorkshire.

Getting Ready on the Middleton Lodge Estate

Kirsten spent her morning within the estate’s beautiful accommodation, surrounded by her mum, bridesmaids, and an adorable flower girl. Meanwhile, Niall and the guests gathered at the Coach House for a pre-ceremony drink, a great way to soak up the atmosphere of the wider estate before heading over to the main event.

A Rustic Ceremony at The Fig House

The ceremony space in The Fig House was beautiful. Dressed in rustic wooden chairs and overflowing with stunning autumnal floral displays from The Wilde, the room felt both grand and intimate. I’m a huge fan of the architecture at Fig House, the venue lends itself to upmarket celebrations with a classy rustic vibe. The arched window provides perfect light for photographing the exchange of vows.

After the “I dos,” we braved the crisp autumn air to explore the grounds. While Niall is naturally shy, his connection with Kirsten is undeniable, his eyes lit up the moment they were together. I specialise in working with couples who don’t love being photographed, so knew how to get him to feel comfortable in front of the camera. The garden’s design meant that even in autumn, the colours and textures were vibrant, offering endless variety for their couple portraits.

Magic, Music, and “The Rules”

The reception moved into the wedding breakfast where the energy was high. During the speeches, we learned that the couple’s journey began with a Valentine’s Day date in Leeds back in 2014. From Kirsten’s dad presenting Niall with “The Rules” for a happy marriage to Mark Wadding blowing minds with his magic tricks, the afternoon was full of those unscripted moments I love to catch.

The evening rounded off with Craig Bevan providing a perfect mix of live music and DJing, keeping the dancefloor at The Fig House moving all night long.
