The Chevin Hotel sits in the middle of woodland near Otley and feels a million miles away from Leeds City Centre. A lake, trees, and woodland cabins and lodges create that escape-to-the-woods feeling. Modern couples love it because it feels relaxed and real. Rustic charm within nature. The hotel also has a spa and some of the lodges have hot tubs so you can chill out the night before your wedding.

Chevin Hotel Wedding Ceremonies

The indoor ceremony room is a relatively new addition to Chevin Country Park Hotel weddings. Before this, ceremonies took place in the breakfast room, which was not (in my opinion) a great choice. This new ceremony room provides natural light, offering flattering soft lighting.

Photographer tip: Take a pause when you arrive at your ceremony. Really take the moment in. I see brides rush in, but those few seconds of breathing and pausing make all the difference.

The Best Photography Locations at Chevin Country Park Hotel

This is where the Chevin Country Park Hotel wedding venue really shines for photos. You’ve got so many options without going far from your guests.

Woodland pathways: Trees line the paths around the venue, which makes for great relaxed bridal party pictures. I personally love capturing the bridal party walking from the cabins to the wedding ceremony .

The lakeside: A short walk around the lake provides a perfect spot for couple portraits. It gives you some space to be present with each other away from the chaos of your wedding day.

Surprise View: My favourite spot for sunset portraits. A short drive from the venue to this Chevin Forest Park location gives an epic backdrop. I usually aim for couple portraits here after the wedding breakfast or first dance.

Photographer tips for Chevin Country Park Hotel photos:

You don’t need to disappear for hours to get great photos. I try to break this into two or three 20 minute time slots, giving you a chance to escape your day and breathe it all in. The very best time for portraits is known as golden hour. It’s the hour before the sun sets and gives a golden soft, flattering light. In summer this can be as late as 9pm, which is why I don’t like to rush off after the first dance. If couple portraits are important, allow yourself time for pictures at this time.

Bring a spare pair of shoes! The ground around the lake can be soft, not ideal if you’re wearing heels. Heels are also not the best footwear choice for Surprise View.

Keep your prep space tidy. When there are lots of people getting ready in one space, it can easily become cluttered – usually with a bright orange Sainsbury’s bag in the background! Clear surfaces always look better in photographs. Your dress, shoes, and jewellery look best against simple backgrounds. The lodges have lovely wooden features. Use these as natural backdrops. Hang your dress near a window for beautiful detail shots.

The Woodland Suite makes a beautiful space for your wedding breakfast and transforms for your evening reception. During the summer months, the lakeside can be used as an extended space for your wedding celebrations. The venue offers a private bar area for your wedding, yet quieter areas within the hotel for those who need it.

Why Chevin Works for Documentary Photography

One of the reasons I love photographing Chevin Country Park Hotel weddings is because the venue naturally lends itself to documentary-style storytelling. Everything about the environment encourages genuine moments, relaxed interactions, and unscripted emotion. When your wedding is surrounded by 32 acres of woodland, people feel relaxed. Guests wander, explore, and chat in little groups. These pockets of activity happen organically and make it incredibly easy to capture real, unposed moments without anyone feeling like a camera is following them.

My Experience Photographing Chevin Hotel Weddings

After 14+ years of photographing weddings, I’ve worked at a lot of venues. Chevin Country Park Hotel is one I know particularly well. I’ve seen it in every season, in every kind of weather, and with couples who’ve all had very different days.

Take Revai and Liam’s January wedding. We’d just wrapped up their group photos when it started snowing, the wet, kind that sends everyone running indoors. We moved quickly into the Woodlands Suite for portraits, then used the covered entrance for a few more. Fifteen minutes later, the weather did a complete U-turn, the snow stopped, and we had crisp winter sunlight for their outdoor shots.

Then there was Karen and John’s June wedding. It was a warm sunny day. With a lake side hog roast for the evening buffet. These two hardly stopped laughing all day.

Sammie and Chris’ autumn wedding was another example of the venue working at its best. The woodland was full of colour, perfect for relaxed portraits. Later, we created some simple night photos that made the most of the darker, moodier backdrop.
